Portraits of the Artists

Dylan Thomas claimed that the title of his book – a collection of autobiographical short stories, first published in 1940 – was not intended to parody James Joyce's. (A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man was first published in 1916.)

Strictly speaking, the comparison made in the question is not quite correct because Joyce's title starts with the indefinite article (A Portrait ...) whereas Thomas's doesn't.
